Volcanoes...The Newest Earth on Earth...and The Photo I am Basing my Hawaii Painting On

Yes...Palm Trees, Waterfalls with Misty Rainbows and Sunsets are beautiful here...but THIS. This is spectacular...and is the photo-capture from a recent video that I am now working with for my Hawaiian Painting.

It is not surprising, really. Face it. Palm Trees with spectacular sunsets behind them on pristine shorelines have been done to death. And I finished the Glacial Waterfall Landscape for Alaska.  Nothing says Hawaii (to me) like Lava flowing into the Pacific and forming the newest land on the entire planet. Liquid rocks turning to solid rock. Given my history with Collecting the World one stone at a time...this shouldn't surprise anyone.

Lava. The heat. The destruction along with the creation. The crackling and sounds as it flows and cools. The sulphuric odor.  The hiss and plume of steam as it enters the water. The red, orange and white hot glow as it creeps along obliterating anything in its path.  Fascinating.

The sounds were something I had never taken into consideration. This video was an eye (and ear) opener.

The liquid rock (magma-lava) during an eruption is over 2,000 degrees. It destroys anything it even remotely comes near contact with...bursting it into flames and cremating it. Liquids boil and vaporize.  100,000 times more viscous than water, lava can travel for long distances, before cooling and forming igneous rock.

This video shows what happens when common objects are placed in front of a lava flow.

forming The newest land on Earth.

Big Island has both walking tours, or for a better vantage point, boat tours to take you as close as possible to the flowing lava.
