Byodo Buddhist Temple- Oahu Hawaii

The Byodo-In Buddhist Temple on Oahu.

Dedicated in August of 1968 to commemorate the 100 year arrival of the first Japanese Immigrants to Hawaii.

It is a half-sized replica of a 900 year old Temple in Kyoto, Japan.

Although it is not a proper temple (does not host a Buddhist Monk order or active congregation)  inside sits a 18 foot state of the Lotus Buddha...and outside to be rung before entering the temple is a three ton brass peace bell.

Which you can hear rung here...

Around the temple are lush Japanese gardens and koi ponds.

All in all it covers 11,000 square feet.

It is now used as a quiet place for worshippers of all religions...and as a site for weddings and meetings.
