Tasmania has a cooler climate and makes a variety of distinct wines. There are 3 major vineyards in Tassie. They produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riseling, Pinot Gris, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Surprisingly, global warming has had a positive effect on these vineyards allowing the grapes to ripen fully and produce a better flavor. As do the volcanic soils.
Interestingly enough, April is when the grapes are picked on this Australian Island State.
45% of the wine that is produced in Tasmania is Pinot.
