May...Aiden is 4...and Other Observations

What a difference a week makes in Indiana!

Monday before last, it was still in the 30's and we were getting snow. The sets that should have been tucked in outside, and my Wisteria, were huddled in various corners murmuring

"Hell No...We Won't Go"

like so many war protesters.

Now it is beautiful (75+) and everything is Spring Green. The lilacs have bloomed, the trees have sprouted their first tiny leaves, a few of the outside bulbs that did manage to live have flowers and everything is back on track as if April was simply a bad (weather) dream.

And a pop of color...must get more of these soon!

North Patio Beach has re-opened and I've enjoyed several basking days. Already got color.

Red is a color, right?

Love the new swimsuit by Catalina. Not the ribbed suit I was used to. This is thin...feeling a lot like Spanx. Comfortable. Breathes. Nice.

And I found a pair of turquoise and black "rose" scrunchies that match it perfectly.

Yeah...it's the little things!

Have the 2018 Herb Basket started

With only Flat Italian Parsley left to join the basil, oregano, thyme, sage and rosemary.

Also started (seed) chamomile, catnip, my blue morning glories, and dwarf sunflowers.

The Hummingbirds will be back soon.

Our Wisteria is happy to be outside, and has fully bloomed now. Smells incredible.

Like a drive through Alabama in the early Spring.

Tidied the borders...did my first pinch back on the herbs today...then enjoyed my little corner of the world with a book and sweet tea.

Had a surprise yesterday...as Aiden is finally old enough (and very well behaved) for a bit of 1:1 Grandma Rose Time. We pre-celebrated his 4th birthday together.

Four is such a wonderful, happy age!

Thanks, James and Nicki, for letting me have this special day with him!

Summer Break will soon arrive and looking forward to 1:1 time with all The Grands, then!
Maybe even some Pool Time.

Nicole...OMG have to share. Amazing Suicide Girl portfolio shots...

This has got to be my FAVORITE!

You are just beautiful!

Fearless.

Not only Cinco de Mayo today...and Aiden's 4th birthday but also the 144th Run for the Roses- Kentucky Derby  :)

I've the hat...but nary a Mint Julep to be seen...have the mint and sugar on-hand but no Kentucky Bourbon.

sigh

Justify...Audible...My Boy Jack...Mendelssohn- all among the favorites.

Incredible field this year.

My pick is the European trained- Mendelssohn from Ireland.

(although, My Boy Jack is looking good with the muddy field today)

We'll see.

Excited!

Found out just this week that during our (John and I) Casino Getaway next week we will also be able to see a live scheduled horse-race . I haven't been to a live horse-race since California, so this will be a special treat  :) Having some uninterrupted "us" time will be pretty fantastic, too!

Only a few days left!

Can't wait!

This Week's Book:

A detailed journey of one man's midlife crisis, and a return to the sailboat racing of his youth.

If you understand and enjoy sailboat racing you will find this exceptional. If you don't you will learn a few things and still enjoy the lesson (and be motivated by his perseverance).

Very entertaining and reflective read.

 This Week's Movie:

Greedy heartless corporation is experimenting with weaponizing animals (making them huge and violent) in space, when experiment goes awry...assistant is forced to jettison pod with samples...and our story begins...

The fact that The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is the only person in this entire film who actually ACTS...says...pretty much everything you need to know.

Albino gorilla that he saved as a baby and a timber wolf are exposed to the experiment...as well as something that resembles a cross between a Crocodile and Godzilla.

We have made incredible leaps in CGI...it was a shame this film didn't see fit to use them.

Throughout the biggest of the battle scenes I kept waiting for Mothra or the Smog Monster to show up.

Seriously.

1 hour and 55 minutes of my life I will never get back.

There are some funny moments. There are some heartfelt moments. Just not enough to save this clunker of a film.

Now it is time for-

And before I launch into politics...because this week has been...interesting to say the least...

A few words about this guy. Kanye West.

Who had the audacity to say that SLAVERY was a Choice.

No...I am not kidding.

Apparently, all a slave had to do was text: 1619 to opt out...

Who knew????

"Daymn...I knew we should have read the fine print, girl."

After he made the statement the Twitterverse exploded...and never say that people...especially POC have no sense of humor.

Examples

"Shit...THAT was an option???"

"Pick yo' cotton...fo' free...In 110 degree heat? I'm gonna have to say NO, Massa."

Spawning the hash-tag

#IfSlaveryWasAChoice

Which has some hilarious commentary.

But Kanye wasn't the only person to lose his damn mind this week.

This week the

BATMAN FACEPALM

has to go to Rudy "I'm Donald Trump's Lawyer Now...no seriously...I AM" Guilani.

Who confirmed on National Television that Trump did indeed know about the Stormy Daniels payoff by Cohen...and paid him back in installments...and that he did have a NDA over an affair/sex he has stated multiple times did not occur.

Yeah.

...right...

Trust me...everyone was just standing with their mouths hanging open...probably Trump, too...then Hannity tried to dial it back and cover for him and Guilani said

"Oh no...he definitely knew about the payoff."

LMAO!

You simply can't make shit like this up.

So...I voted early (absentee ballot) and that was an eye-opener.

Paper ballot...so I am liking that...no Diebold machine...but

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember when eight tracks...cassettes...pay phones (and Coke Blak) went extinct?

I am here to tell you that (except for school children) # 2 pencils should be on the endangered list, as well.

Imagine my surprise when I realized I did not have a #2 pencil for the ISTEP-like ballot anywhere in MY house.

Then I talked to 4 of my close neighbors who (after checking their homes) were shocked to realize they did not own pencils anymore, either....

I literally had to go to the store and pick up a package of pencils for 1 to fill in the damned ballot.

But it is done...and I am looking forward to Midterms.

"Oh................we'll throw the bastards out...we'll toss the bastards out!"

 More Virtual Tasmania next week!

Update:  Justify...the favorite with 3-1 odds has just won the 144th Kentucky Derby!

Not only winning but breaking Apollo's Curse.

And Aiden's PacMan birthday cake...blowing out the candles!
