A Mid-March Getaway...and SPRING
Celebrating the arrival of Spring!
Thankful, as always, for being blessed to see another Springtime.
And recovering from Our (John and I) Mid-March Escape.
This time plundering Plainfield for a couple days!
We started our adventure at The Breakfast Company (...a great new addition to Greencastle...)
Just walking through the door and the smell of GOOD coffee brewing was perfect.
Coffee served in hefty black mugs and an array of flavoured creamers to choose from on the table.
Welcomed by Jim who actually sat down at our table and chatted with us for a few...and gave the place a very personal, homey feeling!
We sampled their skillets, hash-browns, scrambled eggs, bacon, and crepes...all delicious.
And spent some quality time with Shelby and Sofi.
After a set up of a lifetime for a joke.
Anything for a laugh, right?
Before arriving John had let me know he had "bought something for me...but discovered after leaving the shop that it was broken...didn't work...but he was going to bring it anyway."
When he arrived he had brought a great hat (...for next year's St. Patrick's Day...) and a green stuffed animal for the cats...and some dark chocolate (...he knows me too well...) and Temptation catnip treats (...we will get to those...) and a rather largish brown paper shopping bag.
Containing the forementioned non-working item, presumably.
When I opened the paper bag out popped a Mylar balloon (...Green with a smiley face that read "KISS ME"...)
He then explained that he had carried it all through the shop and passed several women...but it seemed to be defective.
LMAO!
Earning him a kiss from me...
See, it does work!
Silly man.
I sprayed catnip spray on the stuffed green llama for the cats...and they were delighted.
Then we broke open the Temptation Catnip Flavoured treats.
Shelby was interested, but Sofi went absolutely manic...nearly biting my hand before I had put a few down.
(...this was a welcome sight, since she had been pretty much meh about her food, and more recently water, since she returned home, and I was worried about her...)
Shelby gobbled hers up, and then nosed into Sofi's
"You going to EAT that???"
They both enjoyed their treat immensely.
With these...they will learn to operate the Keurig in no time.
Eight paws way up!
(and Sofi seems back to normal on her eating and drinking now)
The Inn was perfect...comfortable...even a completely accessible bath/shower with wooden slat fold-down for me.
Amazing shower.
(...it is the little things...)
So much great "just us" time
and late night Big Macs in Bed.
We did a long planned trek the next day to Steak and Shake for Brunch...had the most wonderful waitress who finally asked if we had been
"...married forever..."
lol.
Explained to her how we had dated in 1982...then lead two completely separate lives from then until a little over a year ago...families...spouses...et al...then both our spouses had died many years back....and how in May we will have been together (...not married...) for our first real year.
She was stunned.
Said we looked and acted like we had been together forever.
Maybe it was the hand-holding during our meal...or the constant joking around and banter with her.
It did feel good to get a glimpse of how we are perceived from the outside.
Morphing from he and I- to "we" and "us".
Well, during Our Time, anyway!
We did an early season stop at Cox's Nursery...where they are busily tending the tiny seedlings in the greenhouse that will be this year's plants, herbs, vegetables and flowers in about a month.
Bought some wheat-grass to plant indoors for Gizzy and some pre-wintered miniature daffodils to plant and force inside here.
I love the tiny mini-daffs.
I'll probably plant mine in one of the terra-cotta planters.
He and I got to see and catch up with Chris who had just got back from classes. Since they are both Tech and Gadget guys, they hit it off well!
All in all, a wonderful Early Spring Getaway filled with firsts
(....when you get our age do you know how incredible it is to still find firsts together...)
...and planning our next already.
More Anon!
Life is Good...
and always an Adventure!
