(Virtual) Istanbul

Istanbul is historically known as Constantinople or Byzantium. In Turkish, it is "εἰς τὴν Πόλιν" pronounced: Is-tim-'bolin.  It is the most populated city in Turkey...as well as the capital. It is home to over 14 Million people making it the 7th most populous city in the world.

Rick Steves has an excellent tour here (without elbowing 14 million people out of the way...and that doesn't even count the tourists)

The weather in November is much like we are experiencing here in Indiana. 58-70 degrees and frequently misty or raining.  In the mornings it is not uncommon for a thick fog or mist to shroud the city.

The humidity in Turkey is relentlessly high. Especially in the summer heat from June to August when temperatures can range from 102-106 degrees.

Situated on the Bosphorus strait, the passage is one of the most heavily traversed in the world.

The strait serves to form the continental boundary between Europe and Asia.

And links the Sea of Marmara with The Black Sea. The strait is crossed by three different suspension bridges.  One of which is pictured above.

Two points have ferry service across.

Turkish Strait River Cruises are also available.
