Virtual Australia: Tasmania
Today, off the shores of Victoria...we are going to (virtually) explore the Australian Island State of Tasmania. Today will be an overview and we will discover things to see and to this week in Tasmania!
Let's go!
Tassie (as it is known to Australians) is 26,500 miles of island state. About 42% of this is designated as a Nature Park. The island is named after Dutch explorer Abel Tasman who made the first European sighting. Tasmania is the most mountainous state in Australia. Most of these are long dormant volcanoes...some jagged and scored from the effects of past glacial activity.
Travel to Tasmainia from the mainland is primarily by airplane (1 hour trip from Melbourne) or there are two ferries (Spirit of Tasmania I & II) that make the trip to the island daily. Ferry to Tasmania takes 7-11 hours.

See Hobart Harbor and watch the Sydney to Hobart Annual Yacht
Race.
Discover The Neck Lookout on nearby Bruny Island

(...they would have to make me leave...you know)
And Whale Watch for Southern Right Whales and Humpbacks
