Our Virtual Adventure this year is The Continent of Africa, composed of 54 separate countries.
Africa is both the second largest and most populated continent in the world.
At over 11.5 million square miles it covers roughly 6% of the Earth's total surface and is home to more that 1.5 Billion people. It covers 20% of its land mass.
It is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, The Red Sea, The Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.
It has Rain-forests, Jungles, Plains, Mountains, Deserts and Beaches.
Numerous rivers and magnificent waterfalls.
Major Urban Cities, Small towns, and in some far flung areas thatched mud huts.
East Africa is commonly accepted as the place of origin of humans...some remains dating back 350,000 years ago.
The term The Dark Continent dates backs to the early European explorers who speculated the mysteries they might find in the interior, as no one had went beyond the coastline at that point.
Africa is the oldest inhabited land on Earth.
There are a multitude of languages, cultures, religions and beliefs.
We will begin next week!
