Pronounced Seh-nuh-gaal...Senegal is also a west-African country.

Its name derived from the river which runs through it.

Under French Rule until 1959...at which time they declared independence. Their government has been fairly stable from that time until this...with no coups. The military stays completely out of politics here.

Like the USA...Senegal is a republic with a President elected every five years.

Unlike the USA...Senegal has 80 different political parties.

Yes, you read that right....eighty.

The capital city is Dakar.

French is still the official language.

Most of the inhabitants are Islamic.

Senegal is best known for its delicious cuisine and French inspired desserts.

Next year Senegal will be the first African country to EVER host the Olympic
Games!

Next week we will check out Morocco.

Until then...
