Virtual Australia: Kalbarri National Park

Today we continue the virtual adventure of Western with a visit to the Kalbarri National Park.

Located 301 miles from Perth to the north, Kalbarri is an edge park. It is bordered by the Indian Ocean at Red Bluff Beach.

Made up of red sandstone. This bluff has hiking trails and there is also fishing, boating, snorkelling and swimming off its coast.

Another well-known feature of Kalbarri is Mushroom Rock

Hikers often making their way to its flat top.

Rainbow Valley is nearby and parts of it are as desolate and dry as the coast is wet...in this land of many contrasts.

Crossbedded Sandstone with many beautiful layers in Rainbow Valley.

And as we virtually hike deeper and deeper in the gorge we come to Pot Alley.

Locate in Eagle Gorge on the  Murchison River

During the return of the rains a roaring river...but during the summer much shallower and mossy green.

Another geological feature of the park is Island Rock

and Natural Bridge

Probably the best know (and most photographed ) rock formation in the park is known as Nature's Window.  Much like Arches National Park in Utah (USA) this window effect is a result of erosion from the wind.

Unlike Utah...Kalbarri has only one of these Arches. Despite its sturdy appearance, erosion will eventually take its toll and it will collapse into so much sand...to begin again, as so many already have in the Western US.

Perhaps a reminder that everything is temporary.

A favored bush-walking and hiking area in KNP is The Z Bend Gorge and The Loop (shown here)

Where a day's hike might bring you to the top of Hawk's Head...overlooking the river.

Also know as the Ross Graham Lookout.

Emma is Twelve...Sister Time...Sofi and More

Perhaps biggest news is our (Tina, Lisa and I) newly established Sisters Day Out.  We may have had separate childhoods...but we are going to grow old together! At 58, 54 and 52, I am the eldest...so I have a head-start on that...lol!

Enjoyed yesterday's FIRST EVER Sisters Day Out.  Almost Home Brunch...and catch up/chat. Playing with Sofi and Shelby. We are all Cat People. Amazing how similar our tastes, likes & dislikes and interests/hobbies really are.

We already have next month's Shopping Trip ( ...after realizing we have NEVER  been shopping...or cooked together...ever...) Grocery shopping and bringing back Chinese Brunch...then preparing pumpkin pies together...and some Honey Mead with our chat  :)

Sofi and Shelby are making their peace with one another. My living room seems to have become the DMZ at this time.

John, who was over Wednesday, and brought Chinese (thank you very much)..taught her a new bad habit. (thank you not so much)

And now she is absolutely obsessed with shoe laces!

She has grown quite a lot...but still spends nights and heavy traffic hours crated

"It's a GATED COMMUNITY...not a crate."  ~Sofi

"It's a damned box with bars on the front, you tiny brainless twit."  ~Shelby

to escape being trod upon or rolled over.

"You know you are NEVER EVER EVER sleeping with us...right?"  ~Shelby

So cute.

You can call her name anywhere in  the house now and she comes"boinging" as fast as she can.

Just love the bunny hops!

When she and Shel get the rips at the same time through the house...well, who NEEDS TV ?

Also learned this week she will climb up you and rip your face off for bacon.

Who wouldn't?

After learning this I am exploiting it as positive reinforcement for her training. It works amazingly well!

She will be operating the Keurig in no time...lol!

My grand-daughter, Emma, turned 12 yesterday :)

From this (when we first met)

to this

They just grow up so fast!

Her birthday breakfast...by request...purple biscuits and gravy.

No new book or movie this week...although Nicole and I may have to see the new Aquaman release.

"...yeah..you had me at Jason Momoa...hon..."

Game of Throne Followers may recognize him as Khal Drogo.

Kind of the ultimate "bad boy".

Most of this week's news taken up by politics...though.

The Loss of GOP Arizona Senator John McCain to his brain tumor.  Although we rarely held the same political position he was a decent, patriotic man who worked hard to put Country (and the well-being of her citizens) ahead of politics...and he will be missed.  He was probably one of the last of the Old Guard Republicans...before the party lost its damned mind.

We also lost playwrite Neil Simon.

In Trumpworld...he is finally realizing the whole Ponzi scheme is collapsing and is tweeting wildly...incoherently...why aren't DEMS being investigated...what about Hillary...what about Obama...it is not fair...rigged witch hunt...et al.

It is pathetic.

At least Nixon knew when it was over...and resigned.

I would like to think Trump will, as well, but realistically he will probably have to be dragged out kicking and screaming.

Preferably in handcuffs.

Just Saying.

And for those at home playing Trump Bingo...we are getting down to the wire now.

Since Sarah is reported to be leaving us at the end of the year (U-1), a BINGO may be in our near future.

Of course, if not the best news- then certainly the funniest- came, inadvertently, in the form of this guy

David Pecker, publisher of  The National Enquirer

(...and seriously...didn't we always know in our hearts that the publisher's name had to be Richard or Pecker??)
Pecker was offered IMMUNITY by Mueller for his treasure trove of killed Trump stories.

IKR?

(Holy Shit)

But the real gem seem to be the immediate sophomoric comic relief his name offered spawning memes like the following

Face it. We ALL needed this moment of lightness.

Yeah...he may be a Pecker...but he is Our Pecker, now.

We are going to need a LOT more popcorn!

Virtual Australia: Wave Rock- Hyden, WA

Today's Virtual Trek takes us to Hyden, WA.  Specifically Wave Rock.

The rock formation is Granite with the wave formation assumed to come about over 100 million years ago due to wash-away of an inselberg. Leaving the solid granite flare. Resembling an ocean wave in the midst of the red dirt.

The Wave is 49 feet high and 360 feet long.

Wave rock is inside the Hyden Nature Preserve.

...more politics...

Okay...so a porn star...a playboy bunny and a guy named Pecker walk into...Mueller's Office.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any stranger...even Hunter S. Thompson could never have dreamed of these levels of WEIRD...

Starting earlier this week when (within an hour and a half) it was Christmas in August!

Manafort was found guilty on 8 charges. 5 false income tax returns, one count of failing to report his foreign accounts, and two counts of bank fraud (and a partridge in a pear tree).

Cohen turned himself over to the FBI and took a plea bargain for 8 guilty pleas. The counts against Cohen included tax fraud, false statements to a bank and campaign finance violations tied to his work for Trump, including payments Cohen made or helped orchestrate that were designed to silence women who claimed affairs with the then-candidate.....and then he implicated Donald Trump as issuing the criminal directives. (falala la la la lah)

GOP Duncan Hunter and wife were arrested, and charges with multiple crimes/fraud.  (The Perfect Pre-holiday Trifecta)

Handcuffed.

Jailed.

Somebody better tell The Donald that he is literally surrounded by Witches!!!

Then the guy named Pecker (insert your own dumb joke here) that has The National Enquirer is given Immunity to divulge all the dirt he has collected,

Mueller:  Fuck me???? No. No. Fuck you...you Orange Twit.

So here we are.

Even the GOP who have been like *crickets* during most of the insanity are starting to back away slowly.

A few jumping from the side of the ship altogether.

A fellow resister made me laugh out loud when she commented on Tuesday night:

"It's riding a unicorn over a rainbow eating a hot fudge sundae!"

to which I added

"While petting a fuzzy purring kitten!"

Mike Pence is silent- as he has been so for quite some time.

"Trump...I think he brought coffee in sometimes..."

"Do you remember him? That guy who played a lot of golf and smelled like Big Macs"

Rudy promising riots in the street by Trumps supporters if he is impeached.

I doubt that we will even notice since the rest of us (70+ %) will be laughing, partying and dancing in those same streets.

So yes...although these things take time...the tide is turning.

And it was a very very promising week, politically.

More as it comes...

Virtual Australia: Monkey Mia

We've been waiting for you.

Today we begin the Virtual Adventure of Monkey Mia WA.

Somewhat of a misnomer. You won't find any monkeys, here. The name derived from  the aboriginal mia...meaning shelter.

The Monkey part came from the name of a Pearling Schooner that used to port here in 1834.

The name Dolphin-Mia would probably be more appropriate these days This marine sanctuary is known for its crystal clear waters and abundance of friendly curious wild dolphins who will swim, feed and interact with you independently.

When you throw in the 'roos and emu on the shore; the whalesharks and sea turtles in the water...and pelicans overhead...

Well...you have the makings of a great day trip!

About 900 km north from Perth, there is something for everyone. Kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, interacting with the wildlife or just enjoying the sugar white beach and perfect weather.

Once a base for the Pearling Industry...the cove and surrounding land bought by a fisherman and his wife in 1960. The wife started feeding the wild dolphins and they became quite friendly and gradually their numbers started to increase to the point people would come here just to see the dolphins. *In 1985 an information center was built and by 1988 a grant made a car-park, road and facilities. In 1990 Monkey Mia was declared a Marine Park and is now managed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife.

Virtual Australia: Dirk Hartog Island WA

Named after Dirk Hartog...the Dutch sea captain who first discovered this 50 mile bit of land off the coast of Western Australia. He called it Eendrachtsland after his ship Eendracht meaning "Unity".

Mostly sand dunes and scrub and devoid of rabbits, this island was used mainly as a sheep station. At one time over 20,000 of them grazed its 240 square miles. That is about 83 sheep per square mile for the mathematicians amongst us.

Now the sheep are gone. The Island is a Nature Preserve and tourists have taken their place.

 Guided Tour

 https://youtu.be/VU4uqDY6FS0

This island was featured in Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok movie...the death scene where Thor and Loki and Odin are looking off the cliff onto the sea may seem familiar to you.

The preserve is intended to be used, now, as a breeding grounds for endangered species.
