Virtual Australia: Melbourne

Further south down the coastline on A-1 we cross out of New South Wales and into the State of Victoria...to explore Melbourne Australia. It is roughly a 9 hour drive from Sydney. You can also travel by plane or rail.

Melbourne is the Capital city of Victoria. The city spans 3,359 square miles. Gold was discovered here in 1851 leading to the Melbourne Gold Rush doubling the population within months. The city was reputed (at the time)
to be the richest city in the world.

Melbourne offers a lot to see and do...

So let's get started!

Today we will begin with the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne

One of the well know attractions along Melbourne's Ocean Road are these sea-stacks. Known as The Twelve Apostles. Formed of limestone and shaped through erosion. The erosion continues today, with only 8 remaining stacks standing. The last collapsed into a pile of rubble in 2010.

Next we will explore the wildlife just off the coast of Melbourne at the Phillip Island Nature Preserve!
