Ireland (Virtual) Foxhunt...and Will Durst's BoomeRaging Tour with Clips...

Oscar Wilde once referred to fox-hunting as "The Unspeakable in pursuit of the Inedible"

And I must admit...it does end very badly for the fox.

However, in Ireland, and elsewhere I suspect, the foxes are considered vermin and the dogs do dispatch it (once caught) with instantaneous efficiency.

After watching An Ireland Equestrian Fox Hunt for myself...

https://youtu.be/DO_mF40zcjM

I think that (at least this particular Irish hunt) seemed to center much more on grand horsemanship and camaraderie. Even children on sturdy Connemara
Ponies join in. A family affair. The eventual capture of the fox by the hounds seemed almost secondary.  All in all an invigorating trail ride through the Irish Countryside...jumping small streams, stone walls and hedgerows...with hounds...oh and a fox, of course.  I enjoyed it tremendously!

There are over 80 hunting clubs in Ireland.

Flower Hill is but one of them.

http://www.flowerhill.net/Foxhunting_Ireland.htm

The hunts running between 100 to 150 Euros  ($112-$168 USD) and vacation packages are available.

Back here in the Real World.

Will Durst is touring again with "BoomeRaging"

I LOVE Durst.  I have followed his biting satire and political observations from the time he looked like this

through the "Bush Years" as he refers to them

then catching him not only in Indianapolis, but later in his home town of San Francisco with my late husband (who also loved Durst's stand-up).

Read all of his columns and enjoyed my video doses of "Burst of Durst" and bought several of his CDs.
At his show "Red, White and Screwed" he even took the time to sign his latest offering!

Which brings us to this tour: BoomeRaging

A hilarious look at Our Generation through the mind of Durst.

Dear God, we're getting old!

And the countdown has started

Summer Fun with The Grands (Emma)

Because sometimes when life (well..politics) has you right there on the edge of "Tyler Durden"

It is nice to pull back to Center by Mall-Ratting with your Grand-Daughter.

It's Summer Break, and I have plans to have a 1:1 Day out with each one of them before school starts in August.

What a wonderful afternoon. Emma is nearly 10 now.  That amazing age of being grown up enough to want to find her special fragrance  (perfume) and a heart shaped locket at Claire's to put her crushes picture in (also nearly 10...and
"Grandma, he is so handsome") or try on jewellery and assorted hats

but still young enough to go a little crazy in the toy store with the toys, puppets, masks. And bring "Rebecca" along to lunch while learning to eat with chopsticks...or be the proverbial "Kid in the Candy Store" before we had to leave...and even enjoy the Day-Glow Black Light Mini Golf Course  :)

I even found this little puppet guy to play with Aiden next time he is over (or I'm there).

The barrel has a lid for Peek A Boo...and the head, hands, arms, and mouth all move.  He will absolutely love it!

So we played in the mall and shopped til' we dropped...and then checked out the massage chairs for a BUCK in the mall!

                                    "Nope, I am STAYING here...Grandma!"

Week after next, Brenden and I are going to have a "Guy's Grandma Rose Day" (without the perfume and jewellery shopping) and in July I have another Mall-Ratting Adventure planned with Kaylee and Hannah. Nicole and I will have to sneak away for a day with Aiden who is way too mobile and unpredictable for us to have a solo adventure yet. Would like to see Preston again before school starts, as well.

Summer Fun!

Chris and Tina are off to The Dunes and Lake Michigan this weekend for their own Summer Fun :)

James, Nicki and the kids have been hanging out by the pool a lot, already!
We have been discussing the possibility of a quick 3 day excursion together with a few of the grands to Warren Dunes before summer ends, ourselves!

So...back to Center.
Life is good.

Taking the weekend to relax, bask, write, read, play in the plants, paint,  re-group...and be happy in the knowledge that since Bernie WON Indiana in the Primaries I CAN write him in during the General even if he doesn't win the nomination at the Philly Convention in July. No...the SUPER DELEGATES still don't vote or nominate anyone until July 25th...no matter how many times Hillary and the MSM proclaim her to be the Nominee.

So there's that....

The Media Coronation of Hillary...or Why She Can Wait For Hell To Freeze Over For My Vote

Seriously, it has taken since Monday night to even calm down enough to write this without sounding like Cartman in a South Park Episode

A Mug of Milk and a Plate of Chocolate Chip Cookies, later...and I am ready to tackle this thing.

~breathe~

Okay...here we go.

Over a week ago Chris Matthews told us via MSM that before California's Primary Election (or the other five that were occurring on the same day) Hillary would claim the nomination.
It is a matter of video record.
Look it up.

Then the day before SIX Primary Elections...without the required number of pledged delegates (and at this point you can stick your Super Delegates right up your ASS, okay...they don't VOTE until July 25th...) On June 6th...MSM called the Primary Nomination for Clinton...WTF?????

And the rest is history, as they say.

Speaking of history...no, Hillary...you STILL haven't received the Nomination yet. That happens at the July Convention. If it happens at all.

https://youtu.be/wduK60MGUT4

The fact of the matter is that NEITHER of them have or will have the necessary number of pledged delegates going into the Convention in July and this will be a Contested Convention. No matter how INCONVENIENT that is for the DNC.

I am so disgusted with all the blathering about what a wonderful role model....yadda yadda...glass ceilings broken and all of that. Foremost because she has played the "I have a VAGINA" card one too many times in this primary to ever consider her a role model for women. A woman who is a real role model for women doesn't have to remind ANYONE they have a vagina...that is the POINT.   The way she has rode on both Obama's and Bill's coat-tails like a water-skiing squirrel. The way she has lied enough to peel the paint off the wall...and is masturbating like a zoo monkey on a kindergarten field trip to the idea of more war...sending your kids..not hers, of course. The way she is on video as a young lawyer laughing about getting a 12 year old virgin's attacker and rapist off on a technicality. And ruining the young girl's LIFE in the process. The fact that she stand in front of us and talks about those EVIL guns...but has no problem brokering deals to arm some of the nations who are then using them to kill tens of thousands including children...and who have some of the most stringent basic human rights affronts against women...but don't let a silly thing like FACTS stop you from saying what a fine Role Model she makes.

After all, she does have a VAGINA.

And after she has shit on us and spit on us and ask us to "go away" both in person and through her MSM cronies, at least once a week since the Primary started...now she wants us to vote for her...of we will have to face the Boogey-Man  (a.k.a. Trump)

SERIOUSLY???????

You know what. After watching the manipulation of the media and her self-coronation a full month before the last vote is cast and the day before 6 primary elections...

He scares me a lot less than she does.

He is a racist, blovinating wind-bag who could never do even half of what he is blustering about. We have laws and a constitution to prohibit most of it. And he is fucking clueless, people. He doesn't have the power to launch anything.  Oh, and Mexico isn't going to pay to build that damned wall. They were pretty clear about it. We won't be deporting Muslim Americans either. 4 Years and it will all be over. Like a bad dream.

She is an evil, manipulative, horrid hag who has destroyed my faith in the democratic system by rigging it to achieve her coronation. And "the peasants"?

"Let Them Eat Cake"

She might take a moment and reflect on how well that attitude worked for Marie Antoinette.
Just saying.

So when am I going to return to the fold, and vote HRC?

How does NEVER work for you?

Nope. Nada. Nyet. Non. No. Hell no. Fuck no. Not going to happen. Not in this lifetime. Not in the next hundred or so, either. When pigs fly. Scratch that...not even if pigs fly. Not in a million years. Not for a million bucks. Not even if it hands Trump the election.

And you can get over yourselves with the eye rolls and admonishing me

"Well you are just giving it to Trump, then"

No.  If Hillary loses, or when she loses...she and her entitled damned attitude of "It is MY turn" will have lost her the election. Ignoring the wishes of over half the Democratic voters and Independents and the Odd Republican here and there. We have a candidate that can beat Trump. BERNIE SANDERS. And he doesn't come with 99 pre-existing scandals, FBI agents, or more luggage than Lady Gaga on tour. Or Bill. As an aside...if my one vote causes your candidate to lose to Trump...I'm thinking you should have chosen a more viable candidate for the general election...

Just Sayin'

She and her MSM buddies just decided to shove the status quo down our throats...and think we would swallow.

We'll have to see how that all works out for you.

So I'm standing with Bernie to the Convention and hoping for the best...but even if he and Jane came out tomorrow and supported Hillary...I will NEVER vote for her. So stop asking.

(...I think I'm seriously going to need more cookies...)

~sigh~

You have to hand it to her, though...

Hillary, after 38 of political activism, has almost single-handedly put me off politics.

Almost.

Now I am just pissed off.

Novel: The Plan (Continuing with Mark- The Survivor)

[ I am amazed what The General has managed to  do in such a short period of time. Not only are there poster sized pictures of Josh and Jade in several poses playing on Mark's formerly bare walls, but there is "refrigerator art" as well. Enlarged to 24" X 36" and taped within his line of sight. The staff reports that Mark has been extremely cooperative this week with his daily care, and in good humour. When I step into the room he is grinning from ear to ear. ]

"Doc, I can't tell you how much I appreciate all this.  Aren't they beautiful!"

[It is then I realize why The General took the time to enlarge the photos and art to poster size. So Mark could actually SEE them.]

"The General and I have been talking about me getting back on track with the Exo-Shel program. And they have had several plastic surgeons drop by to show me what they can do with my face...and replacing my eye. They have even been telling me they can work on restoring the vision in the one that's left. A Bionic Eye kind of thing. When they get through with me I'll be the Bionic Man! "

[For the first time in a long time, I am the one at a loss for words. I was going to break the news of Jerry's death to him, but not today. Not now. He looks like a man who can see the end of long dark tunnel at last. I am not going to take that away from him. Jerry can wait.]

"The General says the kids are there a lot, now. He is going to videotape them for me, too."

"No. Tracy doesn't know yet. I think she and Jerry must be coming around to the idea, though."

[I murmur non-commmitally, but he is too enthused to notice. Obviously, The General has not shared the news of Jerry's death with him either.]

"I can't tell you how good it feels to just see their faces. They have grown so much since I seen them."

"I think if I get my face fixed and work on getting more independent that they will let me see the kids again! The General seems pretty sure of it. Says if they won't let me see them, that he will!"

[He is beaming.]

"Doc...I want to get my life together again. Will you help me?"

[ I assure him that NOTHING would make me happier. We chat for a long time. Minutia. About Josh and Jade. About The General. About  the Shel Program. About life. I notice that he seems to deliberately not mention Tracy or Jerry again. Right now I glad of that. His happiness and enthusiasm today is my happiness. After our interview, I will call the Exo-Shel Team and discuss how they want to proceed. These are the moments that make this career I chose fulfilling. When I turn to leave the room I stop in the doorway, out of his line of sight and just stand and watch him. His remaining eye devouring the pictures of his little children like a man who has not had food for some time. ]

Playing in the Dirt....and (Virtually) exploring the Gardens and Pubs of Britain

A lovely "Play in the Dirt" Sunday.

Spent the morning relaxing with The Sunday Edition, the Tucker-Cat, and a mug of coffee on the patio. The Hummingbirds buzzing my feeder and Bullfrogs across a nearby pond harrumphing their hopeful calls for undying devotion...or at least a quick bit.

Yesterday's soaking showers made the ground perfect for weeding and (now that the irises have finished) some thinning. Found Tucker's secret hiding place in the bargain. Solidly in the middle of my stand of irises he has hollowed out a round "cat nest" for himself, and seemed rather put off that I have discovered it.

Tidied the borders, roses and trimmed the boxwoods (no extravagant topiary here...just keeping them more or less spherical and a manageable size). At least  low enough to view my roses over.

Soaking rains and warm suns have done wonders for the roses and herbs.

Soon to snip some fresh Rosemary and make a herbed mini-loaf to go with broth and salad. Still kind of atoning for Memorial Day Weekend's excesses.

                                                         Tah Dah!

(Virtually) poked around the Pubs and Gardens of Britain, yesterday.

Although (personally) I do not care for beer (ale or stout) I love Pub Grub...including the wonderful morning fry-ups and afternoon Chip Butties.

And more than the Pub Grub...the atmosphere...are the Pub Names. Some of which will make you laugh out loud, and must have a wonderful story behind them.

The interior reminding me a great deal of numerous Boston Pubs in The States, which I have seen.

And almost EVERYTHING available on tap.  My late husband, Bill, would have LOVED a Pub Crawl, here, I'm thinking!

If you do like Ales, you're going to LOVE this link

http://www.alesbymail.co.uk/

Where you can sample authentic British Ales, shipped right to your door.

My true love, of course, were the amazing gardens!

A few of them  are even combined with local Pubs for a "His and Her" perfect Holiday.

Have Afternoon Tea served in their midst!

From Topiary, Knot and Cottage Gardens to The Not-To-Be-Missed-Experience of The David Austin Rose Gardens.

And to make your (virtual) trip complete you can both send for The David Austin 2016 Catalogue

http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/Cat.asp

and purchase one or more of the David Austin Roses.

As a Gardener, of course, I must! The only catch is deciding which one to buy!
Finally settling on this:

The James Galway Rose. Huge blooms. Heavy Old English Rose Fragrance. Disease Resistant and a Climber! Who could ask for more?

http://www.heirloomroses.com/roses/david-austin-english-roses.html

My very favourite are only sold (currently) in cut bouquets of 10 to 25 and start at $100. plus shipping charges.

They are named Keira roses. Waiting for the day they have these available in bush form for the general public.  A HUGE Old-English Cabbage Style Rose. When these are still closed the outer petals have a streaky greenish tinge like paper roses...as they open they start very pink and slowly fade to light pink and slight tinges of peach. They are outstanding.

Can you almost SMELL the old rose scent?

So off to bake bread and tidy the house...and maybe even bring some of my own roses in for the table this afternoon!

Novel: The Plan ( A Continuation of The Doctor's Life)

After the death of my baby sister, and the suicide of my mother, my life became the basket into which my father placed all his eggs.

Reflecting back, it was both the catalyst and the means for my interest and career in psychiatry. By age ten I was living more like a room-mate in the house than a child. It was unspoken, but I was aware I was responsible for my needs and myself. Whether it was breakfast and getting to school on time, or making sure I had clean clothes.  My father paid the bills, but we drifted by each other like fog. It wasn't that he didn't love me. He just didn't know what to do with me. He loved me very much. He was so proud of me when I graduated from college you would have thought it was him up there in that cap and gown.  He passed away the very next year of cancer. I think he felt like his job was finally done.

I didn't find out until college what actually happened in the house the day my sister died.

Sometimes, I wish I never had.

The Cerellis' had a bunch of kids. Big happy Italian family. My Mom used to call them a litter, although not to Mrs. Cerelli's face, I don't suppose.

They say confession is good for your soul.

Well...it may be. But it certainly wasn't for Mr. and Mrs. Cerelli's marriage. The summer after mother hanged herself, their marriage imploded. The only blessing was that my Father died never knowing the awful truth. For that thoughtfulness, I, silently, thank them both.

I wish I could have been that lucky.

I used to play with Anthony Cerelli when I was a kid. He was one of my best friends. We would play soldiers or drag a tent into our backyard and sleep out under the stars. Tony was a few years older than me, and he showed me my first torn and tattered pin-up girl ripped from the pages of one of his old man's Playboy magazines he kept stashed in the basement. I was so young and so naive, I actually remember saying wide-eyed "Isn't she cold with just that on?" It was a comment that made my friend pass the Coca-Cola we were drinking right through his nose as he snorted and laughed, ruffling my hair like I was a small puppy. Tony was the big brother I never had and always wanted.

The summer after my mother's suicide the Cerelli's disappeared. My Dad said they had divorced, and the kids had been parcelled out like so many unwanted kittens to various aunts and uncles in the family. It was shocking to me.  I think I processed the whole business by rationalizing that their family was Italian, and therefore, they must just do things differently than we do. I never saw Anthony Cerelli again, until our paths crossed that year in college.

Even after 15 years, I recognized my childhood playmate's face. Striding over to the long oak table in the Great Hall Study where he sat, dark curly head bent over his books, I clapped a friendly hand on his shoulder. When he looked up and saw my face his own clouded angrily and his chiselled Roman face turned granite. "Fuck you and your whoring mother" he spat, then as though he had been mentally rehearsing for that moment for every year since his family was torn apart; he tore into me with the details:

Why my sister was dead.
Why my mother committed suicide.
Why his parents (devout Catholics) divorced and had to move.
Why they were no longer welcome in the Parrish.
How he lost everything that was safe, true, and stable in his life in one horrible afternoon.

And in that very moment...so did I.

He got up and walked away without looking back at me, and although I saw him walking from campus to campus from time to time, we never spoke again.

I don't think it would have solved anything for either of us.

By then, we were both badly damaged human beings.

JUNE...Continuing with The (Virtual) British Isles...Literature and Scones

And...it is JUNE.

Summer is quickly approaching!

North Patio Beach now open for the season and enjoying sunny 80 degree days!

Continuing Mayes' Year in the World Adventure with a re-read of both Thomas Gray's:  Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard

Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard
The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd wind slowly o'er the lea,
The plowman homeward plods his weary way,
And leaves the world to darkness and to me.

Now fades the glimm'ring landscape on the sight,
And all the air a solemn stillness holds,
Save where the beetle wheels his droning flight,
         And drowsy tinklings lull the distant folds;

Save that from yonder ivy-mantled tow'r
The moping owl does to the moon complain
Of such, as wand'ring near her secret bow'r,
         Molest her ancient solitary reign.

Beneath those rugged elms, that yew-tree's shade,
Where heaves the turf in many a mould'ring heap,
Each in his narrow cell for ever laid,
The rude forefathers of the hamlet sleep.

The breezy call of incense-breathing Morn,
The swallow twitt'ring from the straw-built shed,
The cock's shrill clarion, or the echoing horn,
No more shall rouse them from their lowly bed.

For them no more the blazing hearth shall burn,
Or busy housewife ply her evening care:
No children run to lisp their sire's return,
Or climb his knees the envied kiss to share.

Oft did the harvest to their sickle yield,
         Their furrow oft the stubborn glebe has broke;
How jocund did they drive their team afield!
How bow'd the woods beneath their sturdy stroke!

Let not Ambition mock their useful toil,
         Their homely joys, and destiny obscure;
Nor Grandeur hear with a disdainful smile
The short and simple annals of the poor.

The boast of heraldry, the pomp of pow'r,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e'er gave,
Awaits alike th' inevitable hour.
The paths of glory lead but to the grave.

Nor you, ye proud, impute to these the fault,
If Mem'ry o'er their tomb no trophies raise,
Where thro' the long-drawn aisle and fretted vault
The pealing anthem swells the note of praise.

Can storied urn or animated bust
Back to its mansion call the fleeting breath?
Can Honour's voice provoke the silent dust,
Or Flatt'ry soothe the dull cold ear of Death?

Perhaps in this neglected spot is laid
         Some heart once pregnant with celestial fire;
Hands, that the rod of empire might have sway'd,
Or wak'd to ecstasy the living lyre.

But Knowledge to their eyes her ample page
         Rich with the spoils of time did ne'er unroll;
Chill Penury repress'd their noble rage,
And froze the genial current of the soul.

Full many a gem of purest ray serene,
The dark unfathom'd caves of ocean bear:
Full many a flow'r is born to blush unseen,
And waste its sweetness on the desert air.

Some village-Hampden, that with dauntless breast
         The little tyrant of his fields withstood;
Some mute inglorious Milton here may rest,
Some Cromwell guiltless of his country's blood.

Th' applause of list'ning senates to command,
The threats of pain and ruin to despise,
To scatter plenty o'er a smiling land,
And read their hist'ry in a nation's eyes,

Their lot forbade: nor circumscrib'd alone
         Their growing virtues, but their crimes confin'd;
Forbade to wade through slaughter to a throne,
And shut the gates of mercy on mankind,

The struggling pangs of conscious truth to hide,
To quench the blushes of ingenuous shame,
Or heap the shrine of Luxury and Pride
With incense kindled at the Muse's flame.

Far from the madding crowd's ignoble strife,
         Their sober wishes never learn'd to stray;
Along the cool sequester'd vale of life
They kept the noiseless tenor of their way.

Yet ev'n these bones from insult to protect,
Some frail memorial still erected nigh,
With uncouth rhymes and shapeless sculpture deck'd,
Implores the passing tribute of a sigh.

Their name, their years, spelt by th' unletter'd muse,
The place of fame and elegy supply:
And many a holy text around she strews,
That teach the rustic moralist to die.

For who to dumb Forgetfulness a prey,
This pleasing anxious being e'er resign'd,
Left the warm precincts of the cheerful day,
Nor cast one longing, ling'ring look behind?

On some fond breast the parting soul relies,
         Some pious drops the closing eye requires;
Ev'n from the tomb the voice of Nature cries,
Ev'n in our ashes live their wonted fires.

For thee, who mindful of th' unhonour'd Dead
         Dost in these lines their artless tale relate;
If chance, by lonely contemplation led,
Some kindred spirit shall inquire thy fate,

Haply some hoary-headed swain may say,
"Oft have we seen him at the peep of dawn
Brushing with hasty steps the dews away
To meet the sun upon the upland lawn.

"There at the foot of yonder nodding beech
That wreathes its old fantastic roots so high,
His listless length at noontide would he stretch,
And pore upon the brook that babbles by.

"Hard by yon wood, now smiling as in scorn,
Mutt'ring his wayward fancies he would rove,
Now drooping, woeful wan, like one forlorn,
Or craz'd with care, or cross'd in hopeless love.

"One morn I miss'd him on the custom'd hill,
         Along the heath and near his fav'rite tree;
Another came; nor yet beside the rill,
         Nor up the lawn, nor at the wood was he;

"The next with dirges due in sad array
Slow thro' the church-way path we saw him borne.
Approach and read (for thou canst read) the lay,
Grav'd on the stone beneath yon aged thorn."

THE EPITAPH
Here rests his head upon the lap of Earth
A youth to Fortune and to Fame unknown.
Fair Science frown'd not on his humble birth,
And Melancholy mark'd him for her own.

Large was his bounty, and his soul sincere,
Heav'n did a recompense as largely send:
He gave to Mis'ry all he had, a tear,
He gain'd from Heav'n ('twas all he wish'd) a friend.

No farther seek his merits to disclose,
Or draw his frailties from their dread abode,
(There they alike in trembling hope repose)
The bosom of his Father and his God.

Also by learning to make Scones, which are essentially what we refer to as
biscuits in The States with a good bit of sugar added, and maybe some raisins or dried fruit.  Thick with clotted cream or jam. They are delicious.

Basic Scone Recipe:

2 1/2 cups flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 stick of butter...cold and cut up

2/3 cup milk

Mix dry ingredients together well.

Cut in butter until pea sized.

Add milk (and at this point also currants, raisins, bits of dried fruit or nuts)

Form a soft dough and turn out on a floured surface to roll to 6 inch circle.

Cut with floured biscuit cutter or cut into pie shaped wedges.

Bake at 350 degrees until raised, slightly brown, and center is done.

(can drizzle with icing when cooled if desired)

Great with tea!
