Virtual Botswana: Overview
Our Summer Virtual Adventure...a quick trip to Camp Machaba and the surrounding area.
The camp founded by (my friend) Gail's father, and her playground during youth. I have delighted in her stories about her home in Maun (and some times shuddered).
The wildlife one sees...sometimes just out of the window in the morning...ellies by the pool.
Also a large cobra in the garage. Which she killed. By herself. Before breakfast.
The return of the rains filling the Okavango Delta and greening up everything!
A 10 inch centipede finding its way into the house because of the water.
The hit or miss reliability of both her electricity and Internet.
And the fact that now-now in Africa can mean anytime from today to next month...and really translates to eventually.
Africa (a Continent not a country, folks) comprised of 54 individual countries...is very different than life here in The States...I've learned.
My friend Janine (originally from Johannesburg) now a Naturalized American Citizen and she talking about their maids/housekeepers.
Janine's as a child.
Gail...who still has them.
"Oh...everyone has a maid here." she commented once...as casually as I might say that most Americans own at least one pair of sneakers.
But she posts pictures of the camp...and the lions, ellies, and safaris.
And it is lovely.
So tomorrow we will begin...
Come along!
The Delta in the Evening Light.
