Virtual AT: Damascus VA Trail Days

"Beans,
talking to you (virtually) from Damascus Appalachian Trail Days!"

Admitting to seeking out a hostel with a communal range oven I could use to bring eggs, cheese, milk, mushrooms and peppers and create an honest-to-god quiche for tonight since I'm taking a Zero here.

Also because trail chow and one pot dump it in with boiling water really isn't cooking...so there is that.

Hikers wait all year and plan carefully to end up here on the Trail Days Celebration of Hiking the AT.

Damascus...What is your Trail Name and Why?

Possibly the BEST Trail Name story concerns a thru-hiker who got his name the first evening out on the trail. Rather young he had never attempted to light or use his single canister fuel source for cooking. He freaked out after lighting it and threw the canister in a panic...resulting in the trail name

MOLOTOV

for his foreseeable future.

Single Canister Trail Stove.

That's right. We're definitely not laughing with you...we're laughing at you.

A day filled with laughter, food, hikers (old and new), stories, and booths and booths of equipment you've never heard of but must have.

By evening the rains move back in, there is thunder over the mountains, and everyone settles in from the long day anxious to resume the hike; while silently being happy they aren't UP THERE tonight.

Until the next time.

Love,

"Beans"
