Virtual AT: The End of The Trail...Mount Katahdin

"Beans...for the last time on this Virtual Journey"

Difficult to sleep last night, and up before dawn.

Hard to believe today is the day we summit Katahdin.

Nice, spending the last night in the 100 Mile Wilderness listening to the rushing sound of Rainbow Stream against the boulders.

Foung this spot on The Ledges and just sat...watching dawn break...giving me this first glimpse of Mount Katahdin.

All 5267 feet of her.

And we are on our way....

Across Abol Bridge

and the Penobscot River

A quick stop at the Abol Campground Store at the north end.

And we are around 7.5 hours away from our Summit.

On we go...

Across Katahdin Stream

Whose narrower ford can be boulder hopped.

Another wonderful tree on the AT

"All your boulder are belong to us!"

Past Daicey Pond

And another look

The Trail through the pine trees.

Another water crossing with logs to help...

And a little over 5 miles to go...

Katahdin Stream Falls

 Starting the climb!

A lot of scrabbling and hand over hand required here.

The View on the way up!

and another view...

More signage

It is misty now...because we are in the clouds!

Still More Signage

Well, of course, he did...

SMH!

(...George Washington probably slept here, too...)

sigh

Getting closer....

And we've made it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And waiting for the clouds to clear for a good view from the Summit!

From the very top!

And so our carriage slowly turns back into a pumpkin...but it has been an amazing few months.

I am so glad we've made this journey together!

Love,

"Beans"
